Madagascar is a large island. Do not plan to discover the whole country within a few weeks at the risk of passing your holidays from a plane to another one.  Archeological remains are numerous:  fortified villages, monuments, tombs, walls...  However, the island's main source of wealth is based on its FAUNA and FLORA which is unique in the world and its hospitality which is known all over the world. Thus, the island has become the ideal destination which is very much in demand on a tourist market where standards wear out and fashion changes from day to day.

Thailand, Mauritius and its luxury hotels, Kenya and Turkey are now outdated: A "Flight to Madagascar" to observe its FIVE-STAR NATURE has been in fashion and even a "must". Mass tourism is still a long way off but figures speak for themselves: 160,071 tourists in 2000, 170,208 in 2001, 61,674 in 2002, 139,230 in 2003, 228,784 in 2004, 277,052 in 2005, 311,730 in 2006 and 344,000 in 2007. The 2002 decrease was due to the post-electoral crisis. According to the Government, 400,000 tourists are expected by the year 2010 and 800,000 by the year 2015. In a few year, tourism has played a predominant role in the Malagasy economy to such an extent that it has become one of the most important sources of foreign currency for the country.

During your stay in Madagascar, Antananarivo is a prerequisite since it is at the same time the town of arrival and departure, a crossroads between the North and the South, the East and the West. If you stay for less than one month, it will be difficult for you to choose between the North and the South of the Island. Anyway, a brief stay in the East coast beaches could always become part of your tours.

Nature or ethnology lovers, inveterate trekkers or sun-tanning enthusiasts, come to Madagascar since there's something to suit all tastes in this country. A piece of good advice: you should visit the Island according to your tastes and take all the time you need to sample the pleasures of the Malagasy way of life which is full of peace and harmony. Madagascar Trotter tour operator - travel agency is entirely at your disposal to make your stay in Madagascar unforgettable.
